Who We Are

ImageThe Evergreens was founded in 1919 by the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey. As a non-profit retirement home situated on a five-acre site, the home first served a total of 15 residents, and operated with the mission to provide older adults with the support, dignity and security of a residential health facility.

Today, we are a non-denominational community that caters to the individual, social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs of our diverse residents.

Since 1949, The Evergreens has been located on the site of the former Johnson family estate in Moorestown, New Jersey. This 32-acre wooded property, situated in the municipality CNN/Money Magazine called “America’s Best Place to Live,” is both idyllic and ideally located, central to the small town life of Moorestown and a short hop from the metropolitan attractions of Philadelphia, New York and Atlantic City.

Our mission of enhancing the quality of life for those we serve is anchored in the ecumenical tradition of our founders. In 1993, The Evergreens attained Continuing Care Retirement Community status by adding independent living units to its campus, and has since evolved into a premier CCRC in the Southern New Jersey / Philadelphia area.
